The most exciting day of the year. Wesley and Deborah's wedding on February 22nd 2003. The cake There's a story behind this cake. Wes asked his mum to bake the cake a task she accepted. There were three cakes to bake - one for each tier. Work started after Christmas. Instructions were relayed between Chelmsford and York, tins were selected and the baking began. Tons of dried fruit, butter, flour, and whatever else goes into a rich fruit cake were mixed and baked. Each one filled the house with the pleasant aroma that usually signals Christmas isn't far away. And then the moment of truth - some of the tiers were the wrong size - this task was ending in tears. The conversion between Essex and Yorkshire standard linear measurement appeared to have introduced errors. Another two cakes were baked. It was time to get the un-iced cakes to Stamford for decoration. One of the tiers even shrank on the way! Another was baked and delivered with only days to go as the deadline for icing approached. When the decorating was finished the cake was magnificent. What about the surplus stock of rich fruit cakes? Perhaps this story will be the subject of another web page ........
