The end of the road

Here’s the bike computer at the end of my ride. I’m back in
Grassington and completed 110 miles since leaving here yesterday. I’ve
also climbed the equivalent of two and a bit Ben Nevis’s.
I feel good and apart from the odd light shower it’s been fine from
Malham.
I must put in a word of thanks to my bike. Not a puncture or a squeak
all the way round.

Palestinian Young People coming to the Riding Lights Theatre Summer

My sponsored ride has hit the local press in York. The story has been mainly culled from by blog so there’s nothing new in there. The Press hasn’t posted the article on their website so you can’t see it online.

There’s another sponsored cycle ride article on the same page. Brian Crosby, who is coincidentally another Riding Lights board member, was raising money for three other charities.
It’s the season for Riding Bikes.

EasingwoldThis small market town is a cyclists’ favourite place to stop off for refreshments. So I’ve stood here many times. It’s the climax of one of my regular rides. There are about 18 miles on the clock as I pull up and sit on one of the benches on the green outside the Co-op.

I make a long phone call from here – business has to go on and so we chat, appropriately, about arrangements for the storytelling course we’re running at the Riding Lights Summer School.

The summer school is one of the reasons I’m doing this ride. Four Palestinian students have been invited to travel here and I hope to help them pay the airfare. A quick look at the help.co.uk/ridingbike website reveals donations have reached £360.00. Gift Aid will bring that total to £458.00. Good progress for the first few days. The momentum has to be maintained for a number of weeks yet.

Riding Bike – The Route

Planning moves into a new gear to prepare for my sponsored cycle ride to raise money to bring Palestinian Students to the Riding Lights Summer School.

This is route I plan to take

I start the circular route in Grassington and travel through Leyburn, Hawes, Settle, and Malham before returning to the start after 105 miles. You will notice that it will take me up some challenging inclines. I plan to ride the route in two days with an extra day at the end just in case of any delays, bouts of exhaustion, heavy storms or other hazards.
